How to Measure Like a Pro
To ensure a "made-to-measure" look, follow these three steps:
- Bust: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, keeping it level across your shoulder blades.
- Waist: Find your natural waistline, usually one inch above the belly button. Leave one finger of "breathing room" between the tape and your body.
- Hips: Measure the fullest part of your hips and bottom with your heels together, typically 7–9 inches below your waist.
Important Fit Notes
- Corset Styles: For lace-up backs, prioritize your hip measurement, as the bust and waist can be adjusted for a custom fit.
- Seam Allowance: Most garments include a 1-inch seam allowance to allow for minor professional tailoring if you prefer a tighter fit.
